Michael Cook | At a Glance

With more than 35 years of experience in various forms of health law, Michael Cook has achieved professional success. His unique brand of practicing law has been highlighted with one of his most recent accomplishments, as a member for the health care work group for Secretary Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Mr. Cook has also worked closely with the Governor of Virginia, Timothy Kaine, on multiple health care groups and committees.
At Liles Parker PLLC, Mr. Cook represents clients in cases pertaining to regulatory, compliance, coverage, reimbursement, policy, strategic planning and business matters. His services have been instrumental in representing clients before the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services among other State agencies.
Mr. Cook began his career representing Federal regulators of the Medicare and Medicaid programs as an attorney with the Office of General Counsel of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. In this role, Mr. Cook often worked on high profile and sensitive cases. He continued his career as a Special United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois.
To prepare for a career in law, Mr. Cook earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science with cum laude honors from Temple University in 1969. He continued at Villanova University to earn a J.D. from the university’s School of Law in 1973. In addition to his work as a lawyer, he maintains affiliation with a number of institutions that assist his services. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Board Medical Assistance Services, LeadingAge and the American Health Lawyers Associations.
Mr. Cook’s work has also been published in several books and papers. In 1993, he was included in the Integrated Health Care Law book and in 1995; Mr. Cook was featured in the Handbook of Subacute Health Care. Some of his more recent published works include the 2010 American Health Lawyers Association Journal Health and Life Sciences Law, Independent Payment Advisory Board, Part of the Solution for Bending the Cost Curve.
